This pack of live insects is designed to introduce live insects into the diet of poultry chicks. We personally have been introducing small amounts of live insects into our chicks diet and have found it provides a great source of stimulation for the chicks, helping them to learn to forage as well a protein boost that aids with growth when it is needed. The idea is not to replace the chickens dry diet but to simply enhance it. 

In this pack Mini Mealworms and calci worms are provided, the idea is to add a small amount to the dish that you are offering your chick crumb in and it encourages the chicks to take the crumb alongside the live insects and they will start to forage among the crumb looking for the insects.

A good rule of thumb is to feed a level teaspoon of bugs per chick per day until they are fully feathered at which time they will be able to cope with more, and alternate between the Mealworms and the Calci worms. Start offering the live insects usually after the chick is a week old and has started to develop some some wing feathers a standard sized hen chick will now be big enough to swallow a calci worm without issue, if you have a particularly small breed you will have to use your own judgement as to when its a good time to introduce the calci worms as they are slightly larger than the mini mealworms. 

Words of caution don't be tempted to over feed the chicks with the meal worms, they will take as many as you offer readily but meal worms have a high protein level at around 17% but hardly any calcium content so great for putting on weight but not so good for bone development, The calci worms have 50 times more calcium than the meal worms and similar high levels of protein this is why we would suggest alternating the insects.

In this pack there are 2 x trays containing 40g each of Mini Mealworm and 2 x trays of calci worm, this should be enough to supplement the diet for a brood of 15 chicks for around a week.
